Dear Susan, Your ‘right on’ insightful and inspirational sharings really bless me, bunches! Thank you for ‘coloring outside the lines’ and for gracefully weaving together the ‘roots and shoots and stuff with the fluff’. The result if authentic, refreshing, practical, challening, compassionate and really balanced. I look forward to each generous serving you share.
Thank you for your hospitality of heart and spirit. Your way of writing just says to me, “come on in, the water is wonderful. You can even belly flop or dog paddle, swing from a rope or do an ‘Ester Williams’; bring your water wings, rubber ducky, copper tone, floaties, snorkle, flippers, and even a jet ski, but don’t let anything stop you.”
When you share your mind and heart it reminds me a lot of a few of my favorites, among which are musicians/lyricists, as well as authors, retreat speakers, and others her are gifted with the grace of communication/expression. Folks like, Carolyn Arends, Chris Rice, Sara Groves, Wayne Jacobson, Henri Nouwen, Brennan Manning, Bob Carlisle, the ‘Shack’ author, Paul Young.
There is a song by Chris Rice, entitled, “Life Means So Much”. Here are some of the lyrics: “Every day is a journal page. Every man holds a quill and ink
And there’s plenty of room for writing in. All we do is believe and think
So will you compose a curse? Or will today bring the blessing? Fill the page with rhyming verse, 0r some random sketching?

Teach us to count the days. Teach us to make the days count.
Lead us in better ways. That somehow our souls forgot. Life means so much

Every day is a bank account, and time is our currency. So nobody’s rich, nobody’s poor. We get 24 hours each. So how are you gonna spend? Will you invest, or squander? Try to get ahead? Or help someone who’s under?..................

Thank you for letting your life be the pen and ink that bless so many others and will leave a precious legacy. Something we are each called to do. May God’s abundant grace, peace and giggles continue to be with you. Mary

Hi Rachel: I know what you mean about sheep being so simple, and we humans being a lot more complicated (especially with our egos). Also, we have free will, where an animal doesn't. I think the beauty of Keller's insights is that sheep are like a parable of humanity. We have the same basic need to depend on our Shepherd, to trust his expertise in taking care of us. Sheep don't have any choices, especially whether to trust the shepherd of not. If they have a lazy owner, they are stuck with whatever they get. We have choices. And, amazingly, we often choose not to trust our Good Shepherd. Instead, we try to provide for our spiritual needs on our own -- or, worse, we follow the wrong shepherds.

I really love this book. Did you order it?

Hello, is anyone there? Is this thing on?? Check, check. :-)

It has been very interesting reading your commentary on the 23rd psalm and using Philip Keller's book. I did not know anything about him before, although he does seem to have covered his subject pretty thoroughly. http://www.librarything.com/author/kellerwphillip

It has taken me a long time to get comfortable, well, sort-of comfortable, with my and others HUMANNESS. I keep trying to see the humor in my mistakes and craziness. It is almost easier to think of us as sheep since they are so simple, they need so much care and guidance, but they do not seem to have the ego stumbling block we humans suffer from. If I can just think of myself as a sheep, perhaps I too can drop the ego and trust my shepherd.

Thanks Susan.

I have just started reading The Sabbath Wrold, Sabbath has been something I have been seeking for a long time. For me it needs to be like easing into a pool of water, not jumping headlong, but slowly adding the practice. This is working for me. I appreciate your messages and support.
