CREATIVITY CORNER
Fellow Writers and Artists (performing and visual):
This section of MakeRoomforGod.com is just for you.
As a writer, I know that those of us engaged in the creative arts have our own special clutter issues, unique to the artist in each of us. The rest of the site will be helpful to you, but this area is to discuss the “clutter issues” that apply specifically to creativity.
As we should know, the Creator has given every human being the gift of creativity. Problem is, many of us have never realized or explored that aspect of our humanity. In my book, I wrote on page 122:
The Creator lives inside each of us; we are the image and likeness of the One who made us. Each of us has a holy, expressive spark, which is meant to be a light within and a reflection of God’s light to others. This is our inheritance, our true vocation, to create and prove we are the Creator’s children. One of the reasons we are here in this world is to create. Maybe it’s the most important reason.
This quote is in a section entitled “Practicing for Heaven.” Expressing our creative instincts is one of the ways we practice for eternity. The other way is by nurturing our relationships with God and one another. In our busy world, both our creativity and our relationships often suffer.
Creativity may be the first thing to “go” when we are over-committed, frazzled and tired. How can we be creative when we can barely get through the day? When we are busy, tired and overcommitted? We forget that creativity gives us energy. So does prayer. So does “hanging out" with those we love. We shouldn’t allow a busy schedule, over-commitment or the “clutter” of modern life to suck away our energy and deprive of us these life-giving activities.
Each entry in this section will deal with a different “clutter” issue. Often, I recommend books I have found helpful. If I can, I will provide a link to these books. Writers' and publishers’ Web sites often have sample chapters you can read.
